So yesterday, the place where we order our coffee, Gevalia, calls me. They do this from time to time to try and and sell different, seasonal coffee. So after verifying who I am, and I agree to buy the coffee. The conversation goes something like this....

Them: Ok Rich, I am going to need a credit card to complete your order. We are trying to go green.
Me: Just send the coffee, I always pay the bill when the coffee comes. It is always on the box.
Them: Sir, again, we are trying to go green and eliminate the paper bill.
Me: So if you eliminate the paper bill and I pay by credit card, where would I get my receipt that I did pay by credit card.
Them: It will be on top of the box when the coffee ships
Me: So now bill on the box because your going green but a receipt on top of the box right?
Them: Well, when you put it that way, it does sound kind of one canceling out the other.

So there you go. A company trying to go green but missing the mark. He should have asked for an email address so he could send the receipt to me, eliminating the paper receipt on the box.

I have been a little bit under the weather. For the past week I have had some severe back pain. Not exactly in my back but mostly to the right side. It is all better now. The only puzzling this is how did I get it and what made it go away.

We are in the rainy season here in the Cape. Raining every day, usually at night. Good for the grass and plants, bad for getting out and seeing stuff. It is laughable looking at the weather forecast. It shows almost the same temp’s for a whole 7 days with little storm clouds over the number.

Last Tuesday there was a good storm. Winds (they say) were up to 75mph. It blew on of our screens from one of the panels of our cage. Had to replace it Wednesday. Wanted to get out there before it got hot but it did not matter. It was hot anyway.

I hate to beat a dead horse but today and the rest of this week is going to be in the 90’s AGAIN! Plus, no rain in site. All of the retention ponds here in the Cape are getting pretty low. There is algae in the river and people are being told not to swim in the river because of it. What is the solution for getting rid of the standing algae? You guessed it .... rain.

Anyway... hope all is well out there. Everyone stay safe.

“Another day in paradise.” At least that is what the people say around here. For me, well, it would be “Another day in the hot, humid, sticky, sunny paradise.” Don’t get me wrong, it is great weather but I seem to find myself going from one air-conditioned place to another. House to the car, car to the store and back again. But then again, there’s the pool. Always a refresher.

The weekend is coming way to soon for me. Time seems to go by really fast, even when your doing nothing. You would think in my old age that things would get slower. It doesn’t. Maybe one day it will slow dow.

Everyday there are stories about large groups of criminals running around the loop, on Michigan Ave and Chicago Avenue. These groups of thugs seem to do whatever they want to without fear of consequences, They gather in large groups, enter a high end store and take whatever they can grab and run out of the store. They prey on people walking around enjoying the sights or riding their bikes. So far it has been 100% black on white crimes. Battery, Strong Armed Robbery, and Theft is what these misguided, and was about to change their lifes around, do nothing waste of space.

It is just hard for me to believe that the police in the district which these act are occurring in are unable to stop this from happening. The newly elected Mayor and the new police Superintendent seem to just make excuses or just flat out ignore the problem. The police need to step up their gang enforcement before someone gets killed.

They had better wake up and put an end to this nonsense before the City looses more than just it’s reputation for being the place to go on vacation. I’m sure the citizens of Chicago do not want the City to turn into Gary Indiana or Detroit Michigan.

It is Saturday morning and I am sitting out on my Lanai listening to Podcasts and smelling an odor of smoke. I guess something must be burning and the wind is blowing in my direction. It is not a strong smell but a smell nevertheless. I just wish the wind would change and it blows the stink away.

The weather here has been just plain HOT!!!. It gets into the 90’s everyday and it does not look like it is going to rain any time soon. We need the rain. Seems the river is getting low. So, yea, rain is needed.

Nothing new planned for today. Sit around and be lazy............

On Memorial Day we went to Lowe’s to buy a tall ladder. I need a tall ladder to replace the battery in my smoke alarm which is 14 feet from the floor in my living room. The ladder costs me $198.00. One hundred and ninety eight dollars to replace a $1.50 9 volt battery when it goes bad and starts chirping. The only good part was that they gave me a 10% discount because I am a veteran. The lady told me that they give a 10% discount every day to veterans. I wish I knew that $7,000 ago since I moved here. Oh well.......... still good to know.

We went to Fort Myers Beach on Memorial Day. It was very slow getting on to the island. Very crowded. The beach itself was not all that bad. The gulf water was 87°. Went in for a little while then went to my brother-in-laws house and spent the rest of Memorial Day in the pool.
